Small-scale Photospheric Fields: Observational Evidence and Numerical Simulations

چکیده
Observations suggest that magnetic fields at the solar photosphere may be structured below the limit of the present resolution. We argue that numerical simulations could be used in a complementary way to observations in order to study the small-scale structure of photospheric fields. We present a number of illustrative examples. Subject headings: convection — MHD — Sun: magnetic fields — Sun: photosphere

Channeling 5-min photospheric oscillations into the solar outer atmosphere through small-scale vertical magnetic flux tubes
We report two-dimensional MHD simulations which demonstrate that photospheric 5-min oscillations can leak into the chromosphere inside small-scale vertical magnetic flux tubes. The results of our numerical experiments are compatible with those inferred from simultaneous spectropolarimetric observations of the photosphere and chromosphere obtained with the Tenerife Infrared Polarimeter (TIP) at ...
متن کاملSolar surface emerging flux regions: a comparative study of radiative MHD modeling and Hinode SOT observations
We present results from numerical modeling of emerging flux regions on the solar surface. The modeling was carried out by means of 3D radiative MHD simulations of the rise of buoyant magnetic flux tubes through the convection zone and into the photosphere. Due to the strong stratification of the convection zone, the rise results in a lateral expansion of the tube into a magnetic sheet, which ac...
متن کاملPolarization of Photospheric Lines from Turbulent Dynamo Simulations
We employ the magnetic and velocity fields from turbulent dynamo simulations to synthesize the polarization of a typical photospheric line. The synthetic Stokes profiles have properties in common with those observed in the quiet Sun. The simulated magnetograms present a level of signal similar to that of the Inter-Network regions. Asymmetric Stokes V profiles with two, three and more lobes appe...
متن کاملStrong horizontal photospheric magnetic field in a surface dynamo simulation
Context. Observations with the Hinode spectro-polarimeter have revealed strong horizontal internetwork magnetic fields in the quiet solar photosphere. Aims. We aim at interpreting the observations by means of results from numerical simulations. Methods. Radiative MHD simulations of dynamo action by near-surface convection are analyzed with respect to the relation between vertical and horizontal...
متن کاملMHS sunspot model from deep sub-photospheric to chromospheric layers
In order to understand the influence of magnetic fields on the propagation properties of waves, as derived from different local helioseismology techniques, forward modeling of waves is required. Such calculations need a model in magnetohydrostatic equilibrium as initial atmosphere to propagate oscillations through it. We provide a method to construct such a model in equilibrium for a wide range...
